Even better, the announcement came with a teaser trailer that hints at the next season’s arc. Although Lucasfilm is not yet making the trailer available online, Den of Geek was in attendance during the panel. Here’s a description of what we saw in the trailer: One of the major plot points in the teaser deals with the fallout from Din’s decision to remove his helmet in the episodes “The Believer” and “The Rescue” from season two. To deal with his unmasking, Din must visit Mandalore to be, as he puts it, “forgiven for his transgressions.” Footage also suggests that the series will be building off of the standout episode of Book of Boba Fett, in which Din and Grogu reunited after the latter began training with Luke Skywalker. The trailer offers glimpses of Grogu back in his familiar floating crib, but that does not mean that he’ll be stuck in a subservient role. Shots of Bo-Katan Kryze with Grogu have led some to speculate that the season will feature a team-up between Baby Yoda and the Clone Wars favorite. The trailer even ends with Bo-Katan asking the little green child if he thought “his dad was the only Mandalorian.” We’d love to know the context for this conversation. Also featured in the teaser are series regulars Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) and Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga. Weathers previously confirmed he was in the new season. Teaser footage shows him wearing a pretty swanky new outfit. And another associate of Din Djarin’s also pops up, but not in the way you think: one shot reveals a statue commemorating IG-11, the brave assassin droid that helped Mando and friends fight off the Empire in the season 1 finale. Other scenes interspersed throughout feature Kowakian monkey-lizards cracking up Salaciuos B. Crumb style from the branches of a tree, as well as several armored Mandalorians teaming up in a firefight. We even get Din zipping through space in his new N1 starfighter during an impressive-looking battle sequence Most intriguing is the return of Omid Abtahi’s mysterious Doctor Pershing, the Imperial scientist tasked with running tests on Grogu in the first two seasons. Pershing’s appearance suggests that Moff Gideon isn’t too far behind, but as of this writing, we don’t know what other characters, including Gideon or Bo-Katan’s fellow Nite Owl Axe Woves (Simon Kassianides), are up to. We know that both of these characters will be in the third season, but they weren’t featured in the teaser shown at Star Wars Celebration. More season 3 footage shown during the Mando+ panel also revealed our first look of live-action Mandalore, which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, considering what we already know about the arc of this season, but it was still great to see this planet finally make the jump from animation. The few seconds of footage on the planet see the N1 zooming down to the ruins of the Mandalorian homeworld. A smaller but no less fun surprise sees a group of Anzellans up to their usual shenanigans. If you don’t recall these industrious little aliens, we first met an Anzellan in the form of jovial droidsmith Babu Frik in The Rise fo Skywalker. It’s certainly a nice cherry on top to the season 3 reveals. In the meantime, you can read our description of the Ahsoka teaser trailer here.
